Client is a small business owner who lives in Bali and designs and develops training programs. She was feeling burnt out and disillusioned with life and sought out coaching to explore her current situation and to craft a way forward based on a better understanding of her strengths, passions and purpose.

Coaching Approach

Over a six-month engagement period we had six one on one coaching sessions. We commenced by exploring her history, beliefs, influencers, and choices made. This led to identifying the recurring themes in her life and some possible selves that she might want to become. She worked hard on self-development in between sessions applying various frameworks, exercises and readings suggested by the coach. We explored her values and strengths which further shaped her thinking about the person she wanted to become. We used the ikigai concept to also consider what the world needs and what she can get paid for.

Outcomes

Through the coaching process she became more consciously aware of her emotions and learned to reframe and respond in different ways to triggers, for example controlling and redirecting anger. She identified a shortlist of possible future selves for further exploration and ultimately decided on a course of action for the next stage of her career. Although the answer to “what is my purpose?” did not fully emerge, she made great progress in accepting who she is, how to live true to her values and where she can apply her talents.

Coach Feedback

“Thank you, Richard, for your impartial, non-judgemental, effective style of coaching. You provided a safe container where I could share my uncertainties and be vulnerable without fear of repercussion. You offered valuable perspectives and insights to my current situation and provided resources to support what had been discussed – all helping me move past myself and my own thinking. Looking deeper into values and strengths made a huge impact to me: I now make decisions that are aligned with my values. I truly appreciate the time spent with you as coach.”
